SCHS and DSC Textbook Check-Out
Spruce Creek High School Textbooks
Most textbooks for Spruce Creek High School courses have an eBook available inside vPortal and/or Canvas. Work with your teacher if you are having issues accessing the eBook or digital resources. Physical textbooks are checked out through the media center at the beginning of the school year and returned the last week of school (or earlier if you no longer need a book). You can check out or return textbooks anytime during school hours from the media center. Consumable workbooks or work texts (ELA, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry) do not get returned and can be written in.
Dual Enrollment Books
All Dual Enrollment textbooks are loaned to you at no cost just like school textbooks, but they remain the property of Volusia County Schools. You check out and return your books in the media center during normal school hours (8:00-4:00 most days). As a Volusia County student enrolled in DSC, VCS has agreed to purchase the required textbooks and access codes (not other materials) for the class either first by using an existing textbook or providing a voucher to use at the DSC bookstore. Texts purchased with a voucher belong to the school and must be returned to the Spruce Creek High media center or you will be charged for them. Please note that if you purchase the books yourself, the district is unable to reimburse you.
DSC book return takes place the week after DSC classes finish (or earlier if you are done with the book). DSC book check-out takes place the week before classes start and the first week of class. Please check out summer texts (for both summer A and B) before school is out and return them the week we come back from summer break.
Please follow these steps to get your textbooks:
Step 1: Find Out Your DSC ID Number
Make sure you know your DSC ID number when you come to check out the books. We can't check them out to you without knowing your number.
Step 2: Identify What You Need
Visit the on-line bookstore for DSC at www.bkstr.com and search for the books you need using your DSC ID number so that you know what you are looking for when you come in. It is also helpful if you go to class first and get your syllabus to see what the professor says. Make a list or take a screenshot of what you need. You must have the book title and issue or edition if applicable, the author, and the ISBN number for each book or access code. We will look at the DSC bookstore list with you when you arrive.
Step 3: Check-Out
Come to the media center during school hours (8:00-4:00) and visit the media center textbook room to locate the materials you need. We will ask you for your DSC ID number to verify that you have the correct books before checking them out, so be prepared to provide your number. We check out the materials to you just like any other textbook. If we do not have the book, we will check to see if another school has a copy and request a transfer for you and you will need to come back for it.
Step 4: Book Vouchers
If you need a book that we do not have in our inventory or if it is an eBook or access code that you need, you will fill out a voucher to take to the DSC bookstore. A voucher is like a check for payment from VCS that you use to make the purchase. We will be billed for what you purchase with the voucher. You will receive a copy of the receipt, which you must keep and bring back when you return the book in case there are any questions. Anything purchased with a voucher is the property of Volusia County Schools and must be returned to the media center at the end of the course or you will be charged. Single use access codes are the only thing that does not need to be returned. If you receive a voucher and do not get the book, you MUST return the unused voucher to the school to prevent being charged for the book(s).
Step 5: Returns
It is VCS Policy that if you do not return materials within 1 week of the end of the course or as soon as the school is open if the course ends in the summer or during a break, you will be charged for them. If the media center is closed, please hold the materials until the media center is open and email [email protected] for assistance.
Do not leave materials with anyone other than Mrs. DeCarlo or Mrs. Murray in the media center. No additional dual enrollment textbooks will be issued to you until you return the books or take care of the obligation.
